The book is based on interviews and letters for "Abortion Rap" workshops conducted by the author. Baehr says that the workshops are intended to use history "to encourage a new generation of activists to envision what they really want and to empower them to take action to get it." She adds that "the stgories of the women in this pamphlet are in danger of being lost to history. If their stories are hidden, contemporary activists will be left without an understanding of how we arrived at this critical moment in history, and will be forced to reinvent the wheel.
