Abstract:  Biographer Paul Buhle's account of the life of Antiguan activist Tim Hector is a reconstruction of Hector's world view through his newspaper columns and reflections from his friends and collaborators. Buhle traces his intellectual adevelopment, journalism his paper "Outlet" writings on anything from cricket to regional history, litterature and his founding of the Antigua Caribbean Liberation Movement. Interspersed throughout the book are the writings of C.L.R. James which influenced radical thought in 20th Caribbean society and particularly Hector's. Discussed as well is the history of Antigua with its strange race-class structure, history of slavery, Hector's upbringing and the country's shift from plantation society to international gambling mecca. Buhle points out that Hector's views took him from socialist commitment to a call for national cooperation.
