Abstract:  Incite is a collective of Radical Women of Colour Against Violence who are looking for different ways to counter the "non-profit industrial complex" a relationship in which the state, foundations and social services control the non profit sector. In effect being sustained by the very system you are seeking to undo. The book is divided into three sections with articles by 25 women. They look at the origins of the not for profit industry and how it has been co-opted by the ruling elite. They address many issues: the how and why of the development of the not for profit model, the reliance on funding from foundations whose board of directors are primarily dominated by the rich, the impact on social change and its relation to the state. They also ask how the not for profit ideal can be used to support a more radical view of social change and ask if there are there alternatives to the current model outside of the United States that can be of use.
